Elgar, Edward - Nimrod from 'Enigma Variations'

£15.00

Edward Elgar (1857-1934) was an English composer best known for his symphonic and choral works, particularly 'The Dream of Gerontius', Cello Concerto, Violin Concerto and the 'Pomp and Circumstance' marches.

'Nimrod' is the ninth movement from his 'Variations on an Original Theme for orchestra', opus 36. It is commonly referred to as the 'Enigma Variations' as there is a hidden theme running throughout the work which was never discovered before Elgar's death, so remains a mystery. Each variation describes a different friend of Elgar's, and this one is dedicated to his friend and publisher August Jaeger.

This arrangement by Helen Vollam is scored for trombone octet (6 tenors, 2 basses or bass and contra-bass trombone).

Level: Intermediate (Trombone 1 is more advanced, going up to a high D)

Duration: 3-4 minutes
