Anton Bruckner (1824-96) was an Austrian composer best known for his symphonic and choral writing. He was influenced by the work of Richard Wagner and dedicated his third symphony to him. Gustav Mahler was subsequently a great admirer of Bruckner, and once described him as "half simpleton, half God". This collection of Four Motets contains the famous 'Locus Iste' written in 1869, which features on our CD Enigma , as well as 'Vexilla Regis', 'In jener letzten der Nachte' and 'Pange Lingua'.

Helen Vollam has arranged these for trombone quartet, but they also work well for the orchestral low brass section of 3 trombones and a tuba.
